FM KWVA welcomes Orange County, California, punk rock legends
The Adolescents as they celebrate their 25th Anniversary with
special guests The Briggs, Angel City Outcasts and D.E.K.
One of Southern California's best punk bands, The Adolescents
are on a North American Tour this summer in support of "O.C.
Confidential" (Finger Records), their first CD of new material
since 1988's "Balboa Fun Zone". Coinciding with this
release, The Adolescents will are celebrating their 25th Anniversary
beginning July 14th in Boston and ending on August 20th with a
blowout hometown show at House of Blues - Anaheim. This is The
Adolescents first national tour since 1989.
"O.C. Confidential" is The Adolescents fourth full-length
release of new material since they formed in Fullerton, Calif.
in 1980. In 1981, the band released their eponymous debut CD (also
known as the 'blue album') on Frontier Records and along with
Agent Orange and Social Distortion became crowd favorites of the
burgeoning O.C. punk scene. The band's first single, "Amoeba",
was prominently featured on noted DJ Rodney Bingenheimer's compilation
"Rodney on the Roq" and quickly established The Adolescents
as fan favorites. According to "All Music Guide", The
Adolescents, "helped establish the blueprint for Orange County
punk'.
Since that time, the band has undergone various line-up changes
and have recorded seminal releases like "Brats in Battalion"
and have released archival recordings like "Complete Demos:
1980-1986". In 2003, The Adolescents cemented their current
line-up with Tony Cadena on vocals, Steve Soto on Bass, Frank
Agnew on guitar, 18-year-old Frank Agnew Jr. on guitar and Derek
O'Brien (Social Distortion) on drums.
...
D.E.K. (Don't Even Know) is a band of teenaged punks based in
Seattle. Despite their youth, D.E.K. has opened for Social Distortion,
TSOL, The Presidents of the United States, The Accused, The Weirdos,
The Skulls and DOA and is currently touring their second album,
"Wattatata" (Finger Records). After hitting 15 cities
in support of The Adolescents, D.E.K. will release a three-hour
DVD this fall called "The Wacky World of DEK".
"They formed in 2002, when they really were, like, 12, and
have since gained a following based on, seemingly, two things,"
reports Tacoma's "Weekly Volcano". "Numner 1: They
play old school punk the way it was intended, with angst and lewd
humor, and they do it really well. Number 2: They're young, which
people really seem to get a kick out of these days."
Tickets are $10 in advance or at the door. Doors open at 7:00
pm and showtime is 7:30.
