This week, another great group of bands comes
to town and this show should be some kind of fun. The Venue presents
the Briggs, Angel City Outcasts, DEK and (this one I can hardly
believe) the Adolescents. If you were born before 1980, have ever
heard of Orange County, California, and were even slightly into
punk during your angst-ridden teen years, you should know the
Adolescents. If you were botn after 1980, have ever heard of Orange
County (watching "The O.C." doesn't count) and like
punk, you should know the Adolescents.
Formed in 1980 by ex-Agent Orange member, Pete Soto, the Adolescents
came together, fell apart and came together again. These guys
have been kicking it old-school for 25 years now, and on tour
to promote their new release, O.C. Confidential, (OK, maybe watching
The O.C. does count; at least you'll know where they're from)
they don't seem to be showing signs of slowing down. It's hard
to believe and incredibly fortuitous that they decided to make
Boise one of their stops. Good job, Venue!
...
DEK are a young punk band. Young as a group and young in age (they're
all still in high school) that has to be seen and heard to be
believed. They have a raw sound that reflects their youth but
at the same time pays homage to their mohawk-wearing forefathers.
All in all, this is a night for those of you who like your music
hard, but maybe aren't into hardcore. From age 15 to 50 there's
something for all of you.
