| So three acne-popping turds
barely old enough to grow hair in weird places started a garage
band in Seattle. "Big deal," you say. "Why should I care?" Because these three teenage whack-jobs have been heralded as the leaders of the next school of Seattle rockers younger than 21. DEK (pronounced "D-E-K," not "deck") hosted its record release party at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles with the Weirdos; plays dates on the Warped Tour; has toured with the Skulls; opened for T.S.O.L. at the Galaxy Theatre in Santa Ana Calif.; and released its debut album, "Boner," on Finger Records all before the members had high school diplomas. Playing snotty brat-punk with convincing old school fliar, DEK - guitar/vocalist Bret Chernoff, bassist/vocalist Nick Myette, drummer Thani Suchoknand and guitar/vocalist Mark Vraney - formed in early 2003 when the members were ages 13 to 15. DEK, which stands for Don't Even Know, plays songs about girls, boredom, parents that just don't understand, B movies and Michael Jackson. Check these lyrics to "Naughty Neverland:" "You can find Peter Pan in Neverland playing with his little toys / All the time he is looking, looking around for little boys... / Michael Jacks is back but he has no more nose to change / Run run run little boys, run for your moms and dads." These guys are having more fun than you wish you had when you were their age, and if that makes you bitter, then a lethal injection of pull-the-stick-out-and-party might be exactly what you need. |
